Neb. joins greenhouse gas fight

By Martha Stoddard

LINCOLN - Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning joined representatives of 11 other states Thursday in a legal challenge to the Environmental Protection Agency's recent findings on greenhouse gases.

The federal agency took the first step toward regulating such gases when it released a final "endangerment finding" in December. The finding concluded that atmospheric concentrations of six greenhouse gases are high enough to constitute air pollution endangering public health and welfare.

Bruning said the finding would result in unprecedented regulation of agriculture and industry, harming the state's economy.

In addition to Nebraska, the other states involved in the challenge are Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Utah.
