AMES, Iowa — Iowa State coach Christy Johnson-Lynch has been named the Volleyball Magazine's national coach of the year.
Johnson-Lynch, 105-58 in five years with the program, has orchestrated one of the most impressive turnarounds in volleyball history.
In 2009, ISU won a school-record 27 matches and went 17-3 in Big 12 play to finish second in one of the nation's toughest conferences. The Cyclones advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row, making them one of just eight programs in the country to reach the third round in three consecutive seasons.
The former Nebraska standout was also named Big 12 coach of the year and American Volleyball Coaches Association Central Region coach of the year.
