Ex-Husker Potter catches first pass as NFL tight end

9:37 p.m.: Former Nebraska and Omaha Creighton Prep player Zach Potter snuck in his first career pass reception before the 2009 NFL regular season commenced.

The Jacksonville Jaguars tight end caught a 3-yard pass from David Garrard on the first possession of the second half against Cleveland. The drive stalled in Browns territory in a game Cleveland held on to win 23-17.

Potter was signed as a free agent by the New York Jets after the April draft. Shortly after being waived by the Jets, the former defensive end began his transition to tight end when he was signed to the Jacksonville practice squad on Sept. 17.

    Potter was activated Dec. 21.

Former UNO quarterback Zach Miller led Jacksonville with eight receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns against Cleveland. The tight end finished his rookie season with 21 catches for 212 yards.
