Post office robber gets 12 years

A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly 12 years in federal prison for robbing a north Omaha post office.

U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg's office says Jared Mason of Omaha was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Prosecutors have said that Mason and Donnell Smith robbed the Florence post office in April at gunpoint. They took $357.

Omaha police said a good description of the robbers and their car helped officers make arrests less than an hour after the robbery.

Last month, Donnell Smith of Omaha was sentenced to 8½ years in prison for his role in the robbery. — AP
