McCook woman killed in crash

A 42-year-old woman from McCook was killed Saturday in a one-vehicle accident near Holbrook, authorities said today.

Karen Reiners was driving a grain truck loaded with corn on a rural, gravel road at about 2:15 p.m. Saturday when she came to a T-intersection and went straight into a ditch, said Tim Hanson, a deputy with the Furnas County Sheriff's Office.

Local farmers found the woman about 2:19 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities used the Jaws of Life to free Reiners from the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hanson said speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash. He said it was unknown why Reiners drove through the intersection, failing to stop or turn.

Several nearby agencies, including the Gosper County Sheriff's Office and fire departments from Holbrook, Cambridge and Arapahoe, assisted with the crash.
