Man arrested in attack on girl, 12

ATLANTIC, Iowa — An investigation into an attack on a 12-year-old girl has led to the arrest of a Defiance man.

Shelby County authorities said 33-year-old Jesse Smith was arrested Tuesday in connection with alleged sexual acts involving the girl at a residence in Defiance.

Smith faces charges that include lascivious acts with a child and second-degree sexual abuse.

Smith’s arrest came after an investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Smith was being held in lieu of $25,000 bond in the Shelby County Jail.
