Singing for Lara: Actors and musicians will gather for a “Sing Your Lungs Out for Lara” cabaret benefit today at 7:30 p.m. at DJ’s Dugout in Miracle Hills Plaza. Proceeds will benefit Lara Marsh, the artistic coordinator for the Nebraska Theatre Caravan who has cystic fibrosis and is in need of a double lung transplant. Tickets — $20 a person, $30 a couple or $40 for a family — are available at the door.

Help for Greyson: A fundraiser to help Greyson Zeitner and his parents, Katrina and Eric Zeitner of Bellevue, will be today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bellevue Social Center, 1304 Fort Crook Road South. The event will feature food for a freewill offering as well as a raffle and silent auction. Greyson was born March 20, 2008, and diagnosed with heart problems at 10 weeks. He has battled a number of medical issues since August at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, including a heart transplant, intestinal repairs and amputation of his left foot. But he continues to triumph and is coming home soon.

Chili Feed: A Chili Feed to benefit the Ralston American Legion Post 373/First State Bank baseball program will be held today from noon to 4 p.m. at Ralston American Legion Post 373, 7400 Q St. Cost is $8, adults; $5, children ages 5 to 12. There will also be a bake sale.

Jewelry Fair fundraiser: The General Crook House Guild is sponsoring a Jewelry Fair fundraiser today from noon to 5 p.m. Dealers with handmade, vintage, costume and modern jewelry will be located throughout the historic Crook House, which will be decorated for the holidays. The Crook House is on the Metro Community College Fort Omaha campus. Admission is $6.

USO benefit: The Homeless for the Holidays charity project is a benefit for the USO. The Saturday event will feature live music at the Hideout Lounge, 320 S. 72nd St., beginning at 7:30 p.m. Must be 21 or older unless accompanied by an adult. There is no admission charge, but donations are encouraged.

Funds for eye exams: A fundraiser at California Pizza Kitchen this month raised nearly $300 for Prevent Blindness Nebraska. The funds raised through “Dine Out for Prevent Blindness Nebraska” will support the Vision Care Outreach Program, which coordinates routine eye exams and glasses for people in need.

Honey of a sale: Metro area residents purchased more than 4,500 bottles of honey on Honey Sunday, raising more than $22,500 for the Arc of Omaha at the Ollie Webb Center. The volunteers who participated in the Nov. 1 sales were treated to a skating party on Nov. 7, courtesy of SkateDaze, 3616 S. 132nd St.

Free soup for donors: Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont, Neb., is sponsoring a coat drive and more on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Items needed are: clean used coats (especially children’s), hats, sweaters, jeans and warm clothing. Nonperishable food items also will be accepted. Donors will get a free hot soup dinner, including drink and dessert. Bluffs Trinity Church is two miles north of the Highway 275 Bypass/Highway 77 interchange on Highway 77 and five miles west on County Road Q at the intersection of County Roads 17 & Q.

Food collection: The Broadmoor Market, in Countryside Village at 8722 Pacific St., is accepting food and cash donations for the Salvation Army’s pantry through Nov. 22. People can bring in nonperishable food items or purchase a prepackaged bag of food at the store for $25. Donor names will go into a drawing for a gourmet gift basket.

Building toys: For the 21st year, the Home Builders Association of Lincoln has built wooden toys for needy children. The toys will again be donated to the Lincoln Police Union’s Santa Cop project. This year’s project is 70 wooden easels with tablet, crayons and books. More than 100 members of the association and their children worked on the project Saturday.

Salute to ConAgra: As part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest will recognize the ConAgra Foods Foundation on Tuesday as the 2009 Anti-Hunger Champion. The foundation has partnered with Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest) to provide child nutrition grants for local food banks. Grants go to such efforts as the School Backpack program and Summer Food Service programs.

Fire station collection sites: The Omaha Fire Department will help with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree toy drive program by providing all Omaha fire stations as donation points. Beginning Monday, the public can bring donations of new toys valued at $15 to $30 to neighborhood fire stations. The toys will be distributed to families who have signed up for the Salvation Army’s toy distribution program. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 15.

Kwik Shop donors: For six weeks during August and September, 23 Kwik Shops in the area gave customers an opportunity to donate to provide meals to the hungry and homeless served by the Open Door Mission. The result was a donation of $22,908.21.
