Holland jam session for 500

More than 500 high school students from seven area schools will perform in a Chorale Collaborative concert tonight with the Omaha Symphony and singers from Opera Omaha.

Music students from Omaha Burke, Papillion-La Vista, Papillion-La Vista South, Bellevue East, Bellevue West, Fremont and Lincoln Southwest will be joined by soprano Tricia Van Ee, mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson, tenor Will Ferguson and baritone Christopher Burchett.

The students have received mentoring from the professional musicians and instruction from J. Gawf, Opera Omaha resident music director, and Ernest Richardson, Omaha Symphony resident conductor. They also have put in several hours of serious rehearsal.

The concert program will include a Mozart requiem and pieces from Bizet’s “Carmen,” Gounod’s “Faust,” Humperdinck’s “Hansel und Gretel,” Lehar’s “The Merry Widow,” Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci,” Offenbach’s “La Périchole,” Frank Loesser’s “Guys and Dolls” and John Williams’ “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”

The concert will begin tonight at 7:30 in the Holland Performing Arts Center, 12th and Douglas Streets. Tickets, at $10, will be available at the door or by calling 342-3836, ext. 107.

Anyone planning to shoot video or take photographs during the show should contact Sarah Brownlee at 342-3836, ext. 140, and alert the box office.
