Published Thursday November 12, 2009Marilyn Cavender, 74, had come for bone density, blood pressure and balance tests.
She stayed for a massage.
Cavender was attending the AgeWell Center for Active Aging’s free senior health fair Thursday at Trinity Life Center.
Angie Jenson, wellness manager, said the center was 10 years old this month -- and the fair was a sort of birthday celebration.
‘We thought it would be really nice to bring in vendors that offer services and products for seniors, all into one place, and make it easy for our seniors to see all of the different things that are out there.”
The fair included low-cost cholesterol screenings, leg checks, hearing screenings, diabetes and cancer education, registered dieticians and other information tables.
Creighton nursing students were on hand, too.
“We volunteered our time,” said Stacey Welter, a junior. We’re doing hand massages, blood pressures, helping with registration and taking money for the cholesterol screenings. We’re working on our communication skills and just getting involved with the community.” Jenson said there had been a steady flow of visitors all morning.
Cavender was pleased with the size of the health fair.
“I’ve never been to one before, so I can’t compare,” she laughed.
Hours for the fair were 8 a.m. to noon Thursday. Trinity Family Life Center is located at 520 W. Lincoln St. in Papillion.
AgeWell is a community service of Immanuel Senior Living.
