COUNCIL BLUFFS -- In a few days, the public will have a new place to go to for Social Security-related issues.
The Social Security Administrative office in Council Bluffs will have an open house at its new location on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
They may like what they see, according to Office Manager Denise Jones.
"We have a lot more parking," she said. "We have more security."
The new office is located in the Mid-America Plaza, right behind the Molecule Man art sculpture. It will replace the site at 1026 Woodbury Ave.
"We needed more space and the office floor plan needed to be different," Jones said.
The office is where people can come for new Social Security cards or to file for retirement benefits or survivor benefits, she said.
"We also sign people up for Medicare," Jones said.
The local office serves four counties: Pottawattamie, Harrison, Mills and Fremont. There are 18 staff members having a combined 241 years of federal service to 25,931 beneficiaries and 2,518 Social Security recipients, Jones said.
