CLASS C-1
Wahoo Neumann (7-3) at No. 2 Norfolk Catholic (10-0), 6 p.m.: The 1-2 teams from the preseason ratings get their meeting. With Neumann QB Dylan McGill able to throw again after his season-opening injury, the Cavs won't be telegraphing when they want to pass. Norfolk Catholic's Austin Ketter is a 58 percent passer with 1,199 yards and 11 TDs. Kelby Seyl has 1,045 yards rushing for the Knights.
No. 1 Boys Town (10-0) at No. 5 Syracuse (10-0), 7: A rematch from the 2008 semifinal that Boys Town won 25-12, with many key figures from that game playing again. Both teams thrive on defense, with Syracuse allowing 53 points for the entire season and the Cowboys better yet at 34. But the Cowboys gave up 21 to Ashland-Greenwood. Boys Town has been a slow starter in its first two playoff games.
No. 6 Broken Bow (10-0) at No. 4 Chadron (9-0), 6 MT: Their last playoff meeting was in 1987, a 27-6 Bow win. Chadron is running more than in recent years, with Wil Brown averaging 130 yards a game with 15 TDs. Broken Bow is coming off a 19-0 win over Gothenburg in which the Swedes mustered only 90 yards.
No. 8 Crofton (9-1) at No. 3 Hastings St. Cecilia (10-0), 3:30 at Duncan Field: Can Crofton slow a Bluehawk offense putting up 46 points a game? Dalton Sealey has scored 30 TDs and 221 points and rushed for 1,383 yards. Crofton, which lost to St. Cecilia in the 2000 semifinals, hammered Grand Island Central Catholic for 456 rushing yards in a 47-7 win last week.
CLASS C-2
No. 7 Creighton (8-2) at No. 4 Hartington Cedar Catholic (8-2), 6 p.m.: The Trojans' offense starts with Chad Koch, whose 1,931 yards this season lift his career total to 5,311. Creighton, with Landon Pospisil as its leading rusher, has allowed eight points in each of its two playoff games.
No. 10 Sutherland (8-2) at Cambridge (7-3), 6: Sutherland ended Blue Hill's 22-game winning streak by nipping the defending champion 14-12. Randon McKain has topped 1,000 yards rushing for the third straight season, and QB Alex Sandberg has thrown for 1,941 yards and 21 TDs. Hayden Ekberg leads a skilled Cambridge offense.
Elmwood-Murdock (8-2) at No. 2 Ponca (10-0), 6: In last year's second round, E-M beat the Indians 48-21 and wound up in the semifinals. Ponca never has been to a semifinal. Ponca running back Jared Curry has 1,621 yards and 33 touchdowns.
Humboldt-TRS (8-2) at No. 3 David City Aquinas (10-0), 4: It's now six games since the first-team Aquinas defense allowed any points. Nate Roh is a 1,000-yard rusher for the Monarchs. Humboldt's single-wing offense dismantled favored Oakland-Craig 44-6 in the second round.
EIGHT MAN-1
No. 2 Bancroft-Rosalie (10-0) at No. 6 Johnson-Brock (10-0), 5 p.m.: Today's only eight-man matchup of undefeateds features two run-pass quarterbacks. J-B's Grahm Butler has rushed for 14 touchdowns and thrown for 12. Alex Berg runs the Panthers' offense. B-R has outscored its two playoff opponents 116-14.
No. 3 Howells (9-1) at Exeter-Milligan (8-2), 7: The defending champion is rolling again with quarterback Brian Prusha healthy and Clint Belina rushing for 1,801 yards this season and 5,761 for his Howells career. The hosts have squeaked out playoff wins over two three-loss teams.
No. 9 Overton (9-1) at No. 4 Giltner (9-1), 7: Giltner quarterback Nate Most topped the 7,000-yard mark last round and needs four TD passes for 100 in his career. Overton will come at the Hornets with leading rusher Jared Hodgson.
Amherst (7-3) at No. 1 Palmer (10-0), 5:30: Two more dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks are Amherst's Gavin Kenney and Palmer's Tyler Wichmann. Palmer's Dillon Glause is 19 yards from 1,000 on the ground.
EIGHT MAN-2
No. 10 Chambers (8-2) at No. 7 Hayes Center (9-1), 5: Keifer Messersmith is averaging 172 yards a game rushing as Hayes Center is averaging 54 points a game. Chambers, with quarterback Ross Miller, is more likely to pass.
Sargent (8-2) at No. 4 Pleasanton (10-0), 6: Pleasanton won the regular-season match of the Bulldogs 26-6 for the district title. Austin Fenske is the leading rusher for Sargent. Sean Campbell of Pleasanton has 1,768 yards rushing this season and needs 83 for 5,000 in his career.
No. 2 Ewing (10-0) at No. 6 Hampton (9-1), 3: Philip Thramer and his No. 1 receiver, Austin Kaczor, hooked up for a 67-yard TD that helped the Tigers hold off Wynot 28-24. Hampton won its first two playoff games to reach its first quarterfinal since 1977.
Elgin Pope John (7-3) at No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis (10-0), 5:30: It's Pope John's last bid for athletic success before it joins forces for the winter season with Elgin High. The Crusaders are coming off a win over previously undefeated Bloomfield. St. Francis, with Matt Korus getting five touchdowns each time, blew out its first two playoff opponents.
