Hockey: Lancers top Musketeers in shootout

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Danny Mattson and Stefan Demopoulos scored both scored shootout goals as the Omaha Lancers earned a 4-3, shootout victory over Sioux City on Friday.

Demopoulos netted the winner in the sixth round of the shootout, and Omaha goaltender Joe Phillippi stopped Darik Angeli on Sioux City’s final attempt to help the Lancers (10-1) push their winning streak to seven.

The Lancers maintained their two-point lead over Sioux Falls in the USHL’s West Division.

Mathieu Brisson scored two power-play goals in regulation for Omaha, which outshot the Musketeers 50-19.

Nick Oddo also scored for the Lancers, who led 3-2 midway through the third period before Angeli tied it.

Erik Haula and Matt White both earned assists for the Lancers, who scored two unassisted goals.

Phillippi made 16 saves on 19 shots to get the win. Matt Skoff stopped 47 shots for the Musketeers, who have lost five straight.
