Indian Wars-era forts are topic of lecture
“Lost Forts of the Northern Plains” will be the topic at a lecture Sunday that is free and open to the public.
Jeff Barnes, a history researcher and author, will address the Lincoln-Omaha Society of the Archaeological Institute of America at 2 p.m. at Joslyn Art Museum, 2201 Dodge St.
Barnes will discuss forts used in the Indian Wars.
Women's book club focuses on finance
The Omaha Public Library's Florence branch is sponsoring Women and Finance, a new nonfiction book club with a focus on money-related matters for women.

Seminar to discuss hearing aid technology
Join Boys Town Audiology for a one-hour seminar on hearing device technology and communication strategies.
“Optimizing Hearing Aid Use” will be presented at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Boys Town National Research Hospital, 139th and Pacific Streets on the Boys Town campus.
Although the seminar is free, you must register by calling 498-6520.
Free screenings offered during Diabetes Month
Walgreens will offer free blood glucose screenings (for people without diabetes), A1c tests (for those with diabetes) and pharmacist counseling sessions during its first event in recognition of National Diabetes Month.
Event times at Walgreens locations are as follows:
1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 5038 Center St. in Omaha; 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at 8989 West Dodge Road in Omaha; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at 1802 Galvin Road in Bellevue; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at 525 E. Broadway in Council Bluffs.
Tools to help in caring for disruptive children
If your child has been described as unmotivated, disruptive or having attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, you are invited to a free seminar, “Rethinking Our Challenging Kids.”
Its aim is to offer parents, care- givers and educators new tools to help them and the child be more successful at home and school.
Family Strategies will present the seminar from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Security National Bank, 1120 S. 101st St.
Free screenings at health fair
A senior citizen health fair with free balance, hearing, vision and bone- density screenings, plus free chair massages and blood pressure checks, will be offered Thursday at Trinity Life Center, 520 W. Lincoln St. in Papillion.
Cholesterol and glucose screenings will be available for $10. Call 829-6907 to schedule an appointment for these tests.
AgeWell Center for Active Aging, a community service of Immanuel Senior Living, will sponsor the health fair, 8 a.m. to noon.
Lincoln Highway area tourism is lecture topic
The economic benefits of Lincoln Highway byway tourism will be discussed Nov. 14 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The 2 p.m. lecture will be at the Rand Community Center, 100 S. Fourth St.
This event is open to the public.
Heidi Hohmann, an associate professor of landscape architecture at Iowa State University, will lead the discussion.
Missouri & Mississippi Divide Resource Conservation & Development Inc. is looking for historic photos, stories and information related to the Lincoln Highway route from 1900 to 1940. Scanning and recording equipment will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the lecture. Rep. Terry invites educators to meeting
Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., will host an “Educator Town Hall” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Area educators are invited to participate in a discussion on various issues, including the federal “No Child Left Behind” legislation and its impact on education. Guests will include Roger Breed, commissioner for the Nebraska Department of Education, and Marilyn Peterson, director of federal programs for the education department.
