LIVESTOCK
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — Estimated Receipts: 200. Compared to last week, slaughter cows and slaughter bulls sold mostly steady. No recent comparison on slaughter steers and heifers.
Slaughter Steers and Heifers: Select and Choice 2-3 1180-1300 lbs 82.00-82.50. Select 1 Pkg 1190 lbs 75.00. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold 1.00-2.00 higher. Yearling feeder cattle traded fully steady in a light test. Receipts and producer attendance was light, but order buyers were active and the market could have withstood a much heavier offering, which should be on the way. Sunshine and warmer weather has dried fields to the point that farmers can finally resume harvesting and we’re about to see what modern machinery and hard work can do. Supplies included 50 percent steers, 46 percent heifers, and 4 percent feeder bulls. Near 39 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs. For the week: Barrows and gilts closed 1.00-2.00 higher from 33.50-34.00. Sows under 500 lbs sold 2.00-3.00 higher from 28.00-29.00, and sows over 500 lbs sold 2.00 higher from 30.00-32.00. Boars were steady at 10.00.
