If you have half an hour: And you're a drinker with a running problem? The Beer & Bagel Off-Road Run is 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Quarry Oaks Golf Course near Ashland, Neb. The 3 mile-ish run is in its 17th year. More than 500 people have already signed up. Entry fee is $42. Email: U2_CanRun@hotmail.com

If you have an hour: “Your Doctor is a Robot” is the next part of the Science Cafe series at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St., on Tuesday. A University of Nebraska Medical Center doctor will discuss surgical techniques being tested through the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology. Science Cafe is a way to bring doctors, engineers, scientists and regular joes together at coffeehouses and pubs to talk shop. A speaker makes a short presentation about a topic in his or her field and then takes questions. Other topics have included the “Science of Sex” and “How the Brain Works.” Free pizza for the first 50 people. Information: www.unmc.edu/sciencecafe.

If you have a couple hours: The Nebraska Brewing Company in Papillion is hosting the 11th Annual AHA Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Representatives from two local homebrew clubs — the Railroaders and the South Omaha Brewers — will brew three batches of beer. German beer, such as Dopplebock, an Urbock and Hefeweizen will be made.
