    WOMEN'S SOCCER

    Three Jays make first-team All-Valley

    Creighton forward Brittney Neumann was selected Thursday to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team and was named the league's freshman of the year.

    The Bluejays' Kelly Connolly and Emily Orbell joined Neumann on the first team. CU's Alicia Montgomery was the second-team goalkeeper, and the Jays' Beth Fyles and Claire Zach were honorable-mention picks.

    Neumann, from Millard North, leads CU in points with 19 (seven goals, five assists). She is in the league's top three in numerous categories, including second in points, third in goals and tied for first in assists. She also leads MVC newcomers in scoring.

    Samantha Aguilar of Missouri State was named player of the year, and Danielle Mutters of Illinois State repeated as defensive player of the year.

    The MVC women's tournament will resume today with the semifinals at Morrison Stadium. Illinois State will take on Drake at 3:30 p.m., and Creighton will play Missouri State at 6 p.m.
