Jacqueline Standley
LINCOLN — Jacqueline Standley, the troubled mother of New York Yankees pitcher and former Husker Joba Chamberlain, was convicted Monday of dealing drugs after entering a no contest plea to a reduced charge.
Standley, 44, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 16 for delivery of a controlled substance, a class III felony that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison or a $25,000 fine.
She was arrested in May for allegedly selling a one-gram bag of methamphetamine to an undercover Lincoln police officer in February. She originally was charged with delivery of an exceptionally hazardous drug, a Class II felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison.
In previous news articles, Standley has acknowledged struggles with addiction. Since her arrest, court records indicate, she has been evicted from her apartment and arrested for disturbing the peace.
After learning of his mother’s arrest in May, Chamberlain said in New York that he hadn’t spoken with Standley in a while.
He said, "You’ve only got one mom, man, and you’ve got to be thankful for her."
