    Buffs suffer blow with transfer

5:40 p.m.: Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins' reeling program suffered another big blow this afternoon when sophomore tailback Darrell Scott -- considered the nation's No. 1 running back in the 2007 recruiting class -- announced he will transfer.

Scott, from Ventura, Calif., is leaving for a variety of personal reasons, Hawkins said.

In two injury-plagued seasons, Scott carried 110 times for 438 yards, a 3.98-yard average. Scott had arthroscopic knee surgery Oct. 22 to clean up cartilage damage. He started one game in his Colorado career.

Defections such as this one and wide receiver Josh Smith last spring are potential knockout blows to Hawkins, who is 15-30 and on his way to a fourth straight losing season.
