Dahlman neighborhood group meets this week

Wednesday will be meeting day for the Dahlman Neighborhood Association.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Christ Child Learning Center, 11th and Dorcas Streets.

Nature exploration groups to brainstorm

Metropolitan Omaha Resources for Exploring Nature, a local effort to interest children in the great outdoors, will have a meeting of its task forces on Nov. 10.

RSVPs are due by Friday to 315-1713 or to cjacobsen@papionrd.org.

Its eight task forces are K-12; early childhood; parks and recreation; home and neighborhood; fundraising; information technology and promotion; health professionals; and after school/extracurricular.

The task forces will meet from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. at the Natural Resources Center at 154th Street and Giles Road, inside the Chalco Hills Recreation Area.

Surgical robots are topic at Science Cafe

“Your Doctor is a Robot” will be the Nov. 10 installment of Omaha Science Cafe.

Dr. Dmitry Oleynikov of the University of Nebraska Medical Center will discuss surgical techniques being tested through the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology. The research involves miniature robots, which have the capability to reduce invasiveness and minimize hospitalization time.

Science Cafe, a free education program presented by UNMC, will begin at 7 p.m. at Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.

Shutterbugs invited to submit rural shots

Photographers of all ages can enter the Nebraska Rural Development Commission's Rural Nebraska Views photo contest.

Each photographer may enter up to four photos taken in the state that express a “view” of rural Nebraska. The entry deadline is Nov. 20.

Concert concludes tour on behalf of the missing

Wednesday's concert in Lincoln will mark the end of the 19-day International Squeaky Wheel Tour for the Missing.

Gina Bos, a musician, disappeared Oct. 17, 2000, after performing at a pub in Lincoln. Her sister, Jannel Rapp, presents concerts to raise awareness of missing persons, with the goal of finding them.

The Lincoln event at the Meadowlark Cafe will be an open-microphone night, starting with 7:30 p.m. signup and the show at 8. Cupcakes in honor of Bos' 50th birthday will be sold for $1.
