In celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the Sheldon Museum of Art invites families to a free Family Day event. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A morning performance by theater students from Lincoln High School and Fiesta Mexicana of the Heartland will be followed by art-making in the afternoon and music by the Lincoln Harp Duo and Mariachi Luna y Sol.
Mexican breads, chocolate and other traditional foods also will be available.
Admission to the museum is free. The Sheldon Museum of Art is at 12th and R Streets in Lincoln.

The Omaha Public Library will celebrate Family Literacy Day at all locations with a book giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon or while supplies last.
Children will receive a new book from Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories and its partners, First Book and Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing.

Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy will welcome NASA's X-38 Crew Return Vehicle to Nebraska at 9:30 a.m. at Orscheln Farm and Home in Nebraska City.
A formal ribbon cutting will be conducted by Nebraska City Mayor Jack Hobbie, followed by a performance from the Nebraska City High School Band.
The X-38 will be on display there until about 11:45 a.m., when it will leave for the Strategic Air & Space Museum in Ashland, Neb., where it will be housed.
The X-38 project was canceled because of a lack of funding, but several prototypes were produced. The wingless Crew Return Vehicle was being designed for the International Space Station.
The Johnson Space Center in Houston is shipping the vehicle to Nebraska.

“Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” will be the feature for Film Streams' Forever Young family and children's series this weekend at Film Streams' Ruth Sokolof Theater.
The Forever Young series seeks to bring kids and families to the theater to experience classic children's films on the big screen.
The movie will play at 12:45 p.m. today and at 1:15 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for all shows are $8 for adults; $6 for children, senior citizens, full-time students and teachers; and $4 for Film Streams members. The theater is at 1340 Webster St.

In preparation for the state fair's move to Grand Island, State Fair Park in Lincoln will clean house by auctioning off various items that have accumulated throughout the years.
The auction will include items of all sizes, from floor fans, power tools and water hoses to benches, picnic tables and desks, from tractors, trucks and vans to a passenger bus.
Viewing begins at 8 a.m. today with the auction beginning at 11 a.m.; viewing starts at 9 a.m. Sunday, and the auction at noon.

The Omaha Coin Club will hold its 50th anniversary coin show at the Holiday Inn convention center, 72nd and Grover Streets. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Benson Ice Arena is now open for fall and winter skating.
The Sunday Family Skate will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is $10 for a family of four and $3 for any additional person. The cost includes admission, skate rental, popcorn and hot chocolate.
The ice rink is at 6920 Military Ave.
The Motto McLean Ice Arena in Hitchcock Park, 45th and P Streets, is open year-round.
