What Omahan Ronald E. Rydberg loved to do best was spend time outdoors with family and friends.

Rydberg, 27, died after a hit-and-run crash early Monday at the intersection of 42nd and Q Streets.

Police still are searching for two people who fled a Dodge Ram pickup that ran a red light and struck Rydberg's Oldsmobile 98.

A longtime family friend of Rydberg said she remembers family fishing tournaments held twice a year at DeSoto Bend National Wildlife Refuge.

“We fished for fun and bragging rights,” said Miranda Engelkamp.

Engelkamp grew up with Rydberg. He graduated in 2000 from Omaha Bryan High School. She said her friend followed in his father's footsteps working as an iron worker.

He had been at a family member's house before the crash, which happened about 1:30 a.m.

Engelkamp said she spent Monday with Rydberg's family and they were doing as well as could be expected.

Rydberg has five siblings, including step-brothers and sisters.

Service times should be finalized later today she said.
