    Big 12 North favorite?

Filed by Rich Kaipust at 10:56 a.m.

Remember when Phil Steele picked Missouri fifth in the Big 12 North in his preseason magazine and the Tigers and their fans had a cow?

Well guess who's sixth in the North Division at 0-3 right now?

I'll follow Dirk Chatelain's musings on Big 12 realignment (see below) with a quick look at what's happening in the North, where the preseason prognosis was that the "upper tier" was Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri, then a sizeable gap before the "lower tier" of Colorado, Kansas State and Iowa State.

Each in the upper tier started OK. At one point all three were ranked. Now they sport a combined record of 2-7 in Big 12 play.

Among the lower tier, Colorado and Kansas State each were laughed at in September, only to now join forces with ISU for a combined 6-5 Big 12 record.

K-State currently leads the North at 3-1 and owns more league wins than KU, Mizzou and NU combined. But we'll see what the Wildcats really have as the next four weeks include Oklahoma and then the Jayhawks, Tigers and Huskers.

Somebody asked me yesterday on our chat to pick a North Division favorite. I didn't even bother guessing.
