The Omaha Fire Department will distribute 1,000 9-volt batteries to Omaha residents later this week after receiving a donation from the Energizer Battery Co.
Fire officials are reminding people to change their smoke-alarm batteries when they change the time on their clocks.
Daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so people need to set their clocks back one hour before they go to sleep Saturday night.
The batteries will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis starting Thursday afternoon at all 24 Omaha fire stations.
