An Omaha man helped chase down four people after an intruder broke into his home Saturday afternoon.
The victim reported to police that someone forced open a screen door to his home near 52nd Street and Country Club Avenue Saturday afternoon. The intruder held what looked like a handgun.
Officer Jacob Bettin, an Omaha Police spokesman, provided this account of what happened:
The intruder and resident struggled. A roommate heard what was happening and chased away four other people who were standing outside the home.
Officers were called to the area at about 4:36 p.m. and spotted four males matching the suspects’ description near the Northwest Radial and Burdette Street, Bettin said. The four ran from officers but were captured and taken into custody without incident, he said.
One other person, a male, was able to elude officers, Bettin said.
Two Omaha men, both 18, were booked into the Douglas County Correctional Center. One of the men was arrested on suspicion of robbery and use of a weapon to commit a felony; the other was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The two other suspects, ages 16 and 17, were booked at the Youth Detention Center on suspicion of robbery.
Bettin said the handgun used in the incident was a BB gun.
