    Nebraska bouncing back

Filed by Jon Nyatawa at 7:23 p.m.

Last year, the Huskers experienced a similar stretch of disappointment midway through the season, but managed to recover. So coach Bo Pelini's not panicking right now.

It is rare to commit eight turnovers in a game and still find yourself with the football and a chance to win late. The fact that Nebraska couldn't find a way to win Saturday's game against Iowa State may have been more deflating to the players' morale than any other loss in recent memory.

But as expected, Pelini said after practice today that the team has moved on. It had to. There's no other option, he said.

“You've got to fight your way back,” Pelini said. “That's the attitude we're taking. We'll go back to work. It's all about hard work at this point and earning what you get the rest of the way.”

The Huskers practiced today without junior defensive end Pierre Allen. He missed the second half of Saturday's game, but should be back Tuesday, Pelini said.

The news isn't as good for Chris Brooks. At this point, Pelini said he's not sure when the senior wide receiver will return to action.

But there's plenty of competition at that receiver spot, according to Pelini. Apparently, senior Menelik Holt and sophomore Curenski Gilleylen spent part of practice working separate from the top offensive unit.

“It's wide open and we're looking for somebody to step up and make plays,” he said. “That's where we are and that's what we're looking to do. We're creating as much competition to allow that to happen.”
