    Huskers add Louisiana receiver

    • Nebraska coach Bo Pelini answers questions after Thursday's practice:

Nebraska added an oral commitment Thursday from another two-sport Louisiana prep star.

Curtis Carter of Stonewall, La., accepted an NU scholarship offer, becoming the 10th prospect to say he'll sign with the Huskers in February.

Carter, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, plays quarterback at North DeSoto High School. He wants to play two positions at NU: wide receiver in football, and center field in baseball.

“I've made up my mind,” Carter said. “I'm going to do it.”

In playing college football and baseball, he would follow fellow Louisianan Khiry Cooper, who caught his first touchdown pass in the Huskers' 31-10 loss to Texas Tech Saturday with Carter in attendance.

Carter had offers from Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi State and TCU, among others.

Rivals.com rates him as a four-star prospect and the No. 19 player nationally at his position. Carter is rated as a two-star recruit by scout.com.

Carter described the Tunnel Walk entrance at Memorial Stadium as “probably the best experience of my life.”

He was hosted on his visit by another Louisiana product, redshirt freshman safety P.J. Smith. Carter said he met Bo Pelini during the Nebraska coach's time as defensive coordinator at LSU.

Carter also met NU quarterback recruit Tyler Gabbert in Lincoln. They hit it off and talked this week, Carter said, before the speedy receiver settled on a school.

“He really thinks we can do things at Nebraska to give people something to talk about,” Carter said.

Defensive ends coach John Papuchis recruited Carter.

“Nebraska has been on me since day one,” he said. “They were my first official offer. Coach (Papuchis) recruited me from the start, and he hasn't stopped yet. When I got up there, I knew it was a place I could call home.”
