Texas Tech wide receiver Lyle Leong pulls in a 34-yard pass in the first quarter despite coverage by Alfonzo Dennard. The third-and-13 play from the Texas Tech 28-yard line advanced the football to the Husker 38 on Tech's nine-play, 80-yard scoring drive. The Red Raiders capped the drive on Steven Sheffield's 16-yard touchdown pass to Baron Batch.

    FOOTBALL

    Quarter by quarter breakdown

    FIRST QUARTER

Lyle Leong: The 6-foot-1 junior doesn't exactly win the jump-ball contest with Nebraska's Alfonzo Dennard, but Leong keeps his concentration and pulls in the tipped football for a 34-yard gain.

Baron Batch: Not a surprise that linebacker Will Compton can't keep up with the speedy Texas Tech running back. Batch takes the short pass 16 yards into the end zone for the game's first score.

Brandon Sharpe: He closes in rather quickly on Zac Lee, who may have had a chance to scramble for a first down. Instead, Sharpe's sack forces a punt on Nebraska's first possession.

Daniel Howard: The senior defensive end, capitalizing on some confused Huskers, picks up the Niles Paul fumble and returns it 82 yards for a touchdown with 4:52 left in the quarter.

    SECOND QUARTER

Harrison Jeffers: Lining up in the slot, Jeffers moves in motion and takes the reverse-style handoff in stride. The freshman gains 21 yards on the fourth-down play, keeping the drive alive.

Steven Sheffield: The junior quarterback sneaks into the end zone from 1 yard out, capping a 12-play, 65-yard drive that chews up nearly seven minutes.

Roy Helu: Backed up in its territory on third down, Nebraska needs a spark and Helu provides it. The junior I-back snatches the screen pass, breaks a couple of arm tackles and gains 27 yards.

Detron Lewis: When it looks as if the Red Raiders may be content to run out the clock, Lewis breaks an open-field tackle and scampers down the sideline on a 58-yard pass.

    THIRD QUARTER

Ndamukong Suh: The senior pushes Sheffield after the Texas Tech quarterback releases the football to end the second drive. Sheffield bounces off the turf rather violently, while the pass falls incomplete.

Curenski Gilleylen: Cody Green's pass sails high over his intended target, but the sophomore receiver sees the football bounce off his hands. Gilleylen may have scored if he had fielded the pass cleanly.

Alex Henery: Seeking some sort of momentum, Nebraska turns to its reliable kicker for points. This time, Henery can't convert. His 51-yard field-goal attempt sails wide right.

Mike McNeill: The sure-handed tight end corrals a well-defended pass from Lee. It's a 4-yard gain on third down, as the Husker offense finally begins showing life.

    FOURTH QUARTER

Marcus Mendoza: Maybe Nebraska has a backup for Helu. The sophomore turns up field, lowers his head and gains just enough on third down to move the chains on the first play of the quarter.

Cody Green: The true freshman quarterback delivers a laser across the middle to Khiry Cooper for a 13-yard touchdown pass. It's the Huskers' first touchdown.

Eric Stephens: The freshman breaks a few tackles and returns the kickoff 40 yards, flipping the field and snatching back some of the momentum Nebraska just gained.

Steven Sheffield: The junior quarterback ends the game-sealing drive with his 1-yard touchdown run. The score gives the Red Raiders a 31-10 lead with a little more than three minutes left.
