A motorist was rushed to the hospital as a precaution Wednesday evening after a two-car crash on U.S. 75 in Washington County, just north of the Douglas County line.
According to Sgt. Shawn Thallas of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred this way:
Both cars were northbound as the trailing car, a Lexus, attempted to pass the lead car at a high rate of speed. The Lexus clipped the lead car, lost control, veered across the southbound lane and crashed into the west ditch.
The Lexus driver was hospitalized, despite having suffered no visible injury. The driver and passenger of the other car were treated at the scene.
The crash occurred about 8:25 p.m.
Authorities said the Lexus driver smelled of alcohol.
