Check out flu shots at Omaha libraries

The Omaha Public Library is partnering with the Visiting Nurse Association to offer flu shot clinics at some libraries.

Flu shots are $25, or free with Medicare Part B, for people 13 and older. A guardian must be present to sign a consent form for those younger than 19. Flu-clinic times and locations:

Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Abrahams Library, 5111 N. 90th St.; Oct. 19, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Florence Library, 2920 Bondesson St.; Oct. 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., W. Forum to discuss evolutionary medicine

The 10th annual Fall Forum of REASON will attempt to answer this question — Beyond H1N1 and AIDS: What else does nature have in store for us?

Creighton University biology professor James Platz will speak on “Evolutionary Medicine: What Darwinian Thinking Has to Offer.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Durham Research Center auditorium, University of Nebraska Medical Center, in the tower southeast of Farnam Street and Saddle Creek Road.

REASON (Rationalists, Empiricists and Skeptics of Nebraska) is an organization of pro-science activists who defend rational discourse and promote critical reasoning. For more information, visit www.reason.ws.

Reptiles, amphibians on speaker’s agenda

Snakes, other reptiles and amphibians will join Dennis Ferraro on stage when he offers “Reflections of a Nebraska Herpetologist.”

His presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Hardin Hall Auditorium, 33rd and Holdrege Streets in Lincoln. The talk is free and open to the public.

Ferraro, the resident herpetologist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s School of Natural Resources, spends his summers crisscrossing the state, checking on the communities and populations of various species.

His talk is part of the school’s fall outreach lecture series.

Health center to hold chicken dinner

Enjoy the fourth annual fall feast and help the residents of the Douglas County Community Health Center.

The broasted chicken dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the health center, 4102 Woolworth Ave. The health center’s foundation puts on the dinner, which is served dine-in, carry-out or curbside service.

Dinner tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children 10 and younger if the tickets are purchased before Thursday. Ticket prices increase $1 each on the day of the event. To purchase in advance, call 444-7313 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
