Tom's Takes: Break out the shirts, Bo

    Break out the shirts, Bo

If I were in charge of black shirts, there would be 11 hanging in lockers come Monday afternoon. If that isn't how a Pelini defense is supposed to play, it has to be close. Really close. Brilliant performance, especially given the circumstances.

    Suh: Enough said

Ndamukong Suh joined the Mount Rushmore of Nebraska defensive linemen on Thursday night. What a game. That was the most dominant defensive performance I've seen from a Nebraska player in a long, long time. Somebody call the Outland and Lombardi committees, we have a front-runner. I can't believe any defensive or offensive linemen will play better this season.

    Not-so Special

Nebraska's special teams were anything but. Freshman P.J. Mangieri has a strange problem with long snapping on the road. At home, he's fine. But on the road, he's got the yips. And his off-target snaps finally cost NU last night with the safety. Meanwhile, the Huskers' efforts to catch a punt in the rain were so slapstick that they should have considered just letting every punt go. Even the seemingly sure-handed Rex Burkhead bobbled one.

    Weird stuff

What a bizarre night, with the monsoon rains and the scoreboard off. It was actually kind of refreshing. Not the rain, but the absence of a giant video board blaring commercials all night. It was interesting not having a play clock, either. Zac Lee should be commended for operating without one. Hey, maybe that's why Nebraska had its timeouts at the end.
