Football: Big 12 ratings

1. Texas (4-0, 1-0)

Last week: Idle. Up next: Colorado, 6:15 p.m., ESPN. The senior-laden Longhorns won't look past Colorado to the Oklahoma game. There's way too much at stake to make a rookie mistake like that.

2. Oklahoma State (3-1)

Last week: Idle. Up next: at Texas A&M, 11:30 a.m., FSN. If the Cowboys are close to 100 percent physically, a 3-0 start to league play is possible before they host Texas on Halloween.

3. Kansas (4-0)

Last week: Idle. Up next: Iowa State, 11:30 a.m., Versus. The Jayhawks are on cruise control this week against Iowa State and the next week at Colorado before an Oct. 24 home date with Oklahoma.

4. Oklahoma (2-2)

Last week: Lost to Miami 21-20. Up next: Baylor, 2:30 p.m., ABC. If Sooner fans are looking for good news, it's that their team is 0-0 in the Big 12. Winning the league title is about the only big goal left.

5. Missouri (4-0)

Last week: Idle. Up next: Nebraska at 8 p.m. Thursday, ESPN. The two-time North Division champion Tigers see no reason it can't be a three-peat. Winning this game would be a huge step toward that.

6. Nebraska (3-1)

Last week: Idle. Up next: at Missouri at 8 p.m. Thursday, ESPN. Zac Lee was 11 of 30 passing at Virginia Tech. This week, in an atmosphere that will be much worse, he'll need to show what he's made of.

7. Texas Tech (3-2, 0-1)

Last week: Beat New Mexico 48-28. Up next: K-State, 6 p.m., FSN. The ever-classy Mike Leach, with a 14-point lead and two seconds left, had his team score on a 1-yard run against New Mexico.

8. Baylor (3-1)

Last week: Beat Kent St. 31-15. Up next: at OU, 2:30 p.m., ABC. The Bears got by using their No. 3 quarterback and No. 2 tailback to beat Kent State. That won't work this week against Oklahoma.

9. Texas A&M (3-1)

Last week: Lost to Arkansas 47-19. Up next: OSU, 11:30 a.m., FSN. The Aggies' three wins over teams that are a combined 3-11 didn't mean much when it came time to face a big-boy conference foe.

10. Kansas State (3-2, 1-0)

Last week: Beat ISU 24-23. Up next: at Texas Tech, 6 p.m., FSN. Congratulations to quarterback Grant Gregory, a good guy who stuck with his dream through six years to finally lead a team to a collegiate victory.

11. Iowa State (3-2, 0-1)

Last week: Lost to KSU 24-23. Up next: at KU, 11:30 a.m., Versus. A blocked extra point from a guy (Grant Mahoney) who had made the first 47 in his career? It seems like poor ol' Iowa State invents ways to lose.

12. Colorado (1-3)

Last week: Lost to West Virginia 35-24. Up next: at Texas, 6:15 p.m., ESPN. In 2005, UT beat CU 70-3 and coach Gary Barnett was fired soon after. Is a similar scenario possible this year?
