YWCA has clothes for job-seeking women

Women seeking employment or starting a new career can attend the YWCA Omaha's annual clothing extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Women can choose from donated career clothes, shoes, jewelry and other accessories for up to three complete outfits.

The free event also will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the YWCA, 222 S. 29th St.

Also part of this year's event will be a Career and Education Fair, so women can explore career and educational prospects in the community.

Writer to discuss how her job works

The second lecture in the Bluffs Arts Council's Art of Creativity series — titled “Fiction and Film: The Life of a Writer, Inside Tips” — will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Council Bluffs Community Hall, 205 S. Main St.

Sally Walker, a published author and screenwriter, will share the ins and outs of daily life as a writer. She will outline her writing process, talk about how to work with an agent and discuss various aspects of the publishing and film industries. Walker also will give tips on how to get started writing and what to do when you're ready to get published.

Nebraska Brass shows will be a ‘Blast!'

The Nebraska Brass will kick off the “Brass Blast!” concert series Saturday in the Elkhorn area.

The 7:30 p.m. concert will be at Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church, 20227 Veterans Drive.

The band also will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 511 N. Elm St. in Grand Island, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Omaha's First Presbyterian Church, 216 S. 34th St., and on at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1345 S. 16th St. in Lincoln.

Tickets in Lincoln and Omaha are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors. Students get in free. In Elkhorn and Grand Island, tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, and students get in free. Tickets are available at the door.


Networking group for women to meet

NETWORKS ONE, or New Enthusiasm Towards Women on Reaching Knowledge and Success, is a networking group for women that meets the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

Expect free appetizers and a cash bar. Women must be 21 or older.

Cost is $5. RSVP by calling 614-8306 or donnavaughn@cox.net.

On Tuesday, the group will meet at Kona Grille, 295 N. 170th St.
