Maybe Matt O'Hanlon's best play of the day — when he jumped and picked off a pass — was wiped away by a penalty. Still, he pushed a tight end out of the end zone to prevent a touchdown and recorded a third-quarter interception.
Highlight
Right place, right time. Junior Prince Amukamara stepped in front of a receiver and intercepted the poorly thrown ball. It was Nebraska's third forced turnover of the night.
Busted play
The play-action pass play went to the right, and senior fullback William Rose went left. The Huskers didn't react. Rose, wide open, caught a short pass and turned it into a 38-yard gain before Blake Lawrence pulled him down.
Our take
Nebraska finished with three turnovers — the same number of points it allowed Saturday night. That comparison, no matter its relevance, speaks volumes for a unit that was unsure of itself far too often last year. There certainly were mistakes Saturday, but most of the breakdowns could be classified as technique-oriented, not assignment-oriented. Surely, the second-day film session won't seem as painful for the Husker staff and the players.
