    What was that?

Matt O'Hanlon made a fantastic interception in the second quarter, bringing the fans to their feet. But the turnover was nullified by Jared Crick's roughing-the-passer penalty. O'Hanlon made up for it later with a pick.

    Noticed

Blake Lawrence started at weakside linebacker over Mathew May. May may be the better athlete, but Lawrence has a better understanding of the defensive system. Keep an eye on that position battle all season.

    Rave review

Sophomore Curenski Gilleylen, who reeled in a 51-yard touchdown in the second quarter, made a less spectacular but just as important contribution to the first score. Gilleylen's teeth-chattering block at the 10-yard line sprung Menelik Holt to reach the end zone.

That's exactly the kind of toughness Ted Gilmore expects from young receivers.
