Two Omaha men face charges of attempted murder after a crash during a “high-speed pursuit” Thursday morning in Carroll and Crawford Counties, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
The chase began after someone reported two men trying to break into the coin box at a carwash in Dow City, Iowa, about 8:20 a.m. The men, in a Jeep, were pursued east on U.S. Highway 30 through Denison and into Carroll County, authorities said.
About a mile-and-a-half east of Arcadia, a deputy from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deployed stop sticks. The pursued vehicle crashed into the deputy’s patrol car, barely missing him, said Crawford County Sheriff James Steinkuehler.
The Jeep then rolled end-over-end into a ditch, where the driver and passenger were arrested.
The two men, ages 26 and 36, were jailed in Carroll County on a charge of attempted murder, because authorities believe they almost struck the deputy, Steinkuehler said.
