LINCOLN — Five Nebraska towns and an Omaha nonprofit will share in more than $1.6 million in grants for neighborhood revitalization.
The Community Development Block Grant Neighborhood Stabilization Program 1 is sending funds to Auburn, Fairbury, Falls City, McCook and Tecumseh and the New Community Development Corp. in Omaha.
McCook is getting $629,700 to demolish six blighted structures in an area in which half the residents earn incomes at or below 120 percent of the area’s media income.
Auburn, Fairbury, Falls City and Tecumseh will get $110,000 apiece.
New Community Development is receiving $561,000 to acquire and rehabilitate four vacant, abandoned or foreclosed homes. All homes will be available for rent or sale to low-income individuals.
