Quarterback Zac Lee will likely be named start "sometimes soon," NU offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said on Sunday. Kody Spano, pictured, and Latravis Washington also hope to see some playing time at the position.

    Football: Camp Chatter, Aug. 9

COMING: You didn't have to read between the lines with offensive coordinator Shawn Watson on Sunday to realize that Nebraska won't go far into camp before naming Zac Lee as starting quarterback. “It'll probably be sometime soon,'' Watson said. “It's going to be hard to unseat Zac, to be honest with you. I think once we feel like he's got a grasp of everything and headed in the direction we want to go, we'll name a guy.'' Sorting out the others, Watson said, is the “big thing.''

HEARD: NU head coach Bo Pelini wasn't scheduled to speak after practice but stopped to chastise an unnamed media outlet for reporting that some Huskers skipped Fan Day on Saturday. Pelini said it was optional for those not on the 105-player practice list. “Does anybody have any questions, because I know somebody made some deductions that weren't true,'' he said.

PRAISED: Junior college transfer Brandon Kinnie already is getting his share of slaps on the back. Watson carefully spoke of the receiver's impact Sunday while being sure to point out that it's only been two practices. “He's really shown himself,'' Watson said. “He's one guy, out of the new guys, who has really impressed.''

UP NEXT: The Huskers got a break with the weather Sunday as some afternoon storms rolled through Lincoln and made it a little more comfortable than Saturday. We'll see what happens for the third practice of camp today.
