MELBETA, Neb. - The little town of Melbeta will soon have a park due to the hard work and dedication of the community.
An open house and ribbon cutting will be held for the $6,500 project on Saturday, Aug. 15, from noon to 4 p.m. with Congressman Adrian Smith and Senator LeRoy Louden taking in the festivities.
Melbeta Park Planning Committee Chairperson Laura Leggott said it will be a day of live music, food, games, karaoke, prizes, raffles and much more.
“The whole afternoon will be a lot of fun,” Leggott said, “and besides serving as a way to thank our sponsors and recognize all those that made the park possible, we want everyone to come view the park and see what all we have accomplished in less than a year.”
Throughout the event the committee will be raffling custom made T-shirts and there will be park shirts available for purchase.
“We just felt if people are willing to drive out to Melbeta they should receive something,” Leggott said. “Plus it is on their way to Bridgeport for the Greek Festival.”
Throughout the afternoon's event the committee also hopes to raise additional funding to assist with the maintenance for the park for at least the next five years.
