Following a late Tuesday night debriefing regarding the “shooting rampage” emergency scenario at North Platte High School earlier that day, officials involved with the training exercise are calling it a success.
There were “typical” issues to contend with during the drill, specifically communication problems between multiple agencies. Some law enforcement agencies were having difficulties communicating with other involved agencies, but overall those issues were addressed by ensuring that the command center was manned by representatives of all the various law enforcement entities.
“I've participated in these types of drills all over the United States,” said Lincoln County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dean Sparks. “The number one issue, regardless of where I have done these training exercises, has been communication between the various law enforcement agencies. Communication is always the hitch and we were no different here.”
Sparks said further briefings were underway Wednesday afternoon to discuss those very issues, but that overall the exercise went smoothly and was a big success for all involved.
