LINCOLN — For some Nebraska football fans, it's like stepping into heaven.
Once a year, Husker fans get to walk onto the FieldTurf at Memorial Stadium, talk with their heroes and get autographs and pictures.
That day arrives Saturday, when fans will get to mingle with players and coaches from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
This year's Fan Day, a free event, coincides with the first day of practice for the first time in more than 15 years. Nebraska will work out in the afternoon, but the practice is not open to the public.
For the morning activities, fans should enter through Gate 3 or Gate 24 on the south end of Memorial Stadium. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m.
Officials also announced:
• Rosters and autograph sheets will be available at Gates 3 and Gates 24.
• Fans should limit autograph requests to one item per player and coach.
• The line will be long for head coach Bo Pelini and certain position groups. Fans should consider that when determining how to use their 90 minutes. The coaches will be seated near the middle of the field; the quarterbacks and running backs will be in the north end zone.
• Schedule posters will not be available at Memorial Stadium on Fan Day.
• Stadium restrooms will be available, but there will be no access to the Osborne Complex.
• Parking lots around Memorial Stadium will be open, including the Stadium Drive parking garage.
Nebraska will open its season Sept. 5 against Florida Atlantic with a 6 p.m. game at Memorial Stadium.
