GREENSBORO, N.C. — Alex Gochenour of Missouri Valley, Iowa, won the intermediate girls (ages 15 and 16) heptathlon by scoring 4,600 points at the 43rd annual USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics.
She was just 90 shy of her Nebraska association record total set earlier this month in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Association records were set by two Omaha sprinters in the prelims of the 200 meters at North Carolina A&T. Shannon Brewer qualified sixth for Saturday’s finals with a time of 27.51 seconds in the bantam boys (10-and-under) division while Omaha Benson junior Maia Reynolds dropped her own intermediate girls record from 24.97 to 24.51 and qualified fifth for the finals.
