Track and Field: Norfolk's Parks wins steeplechase at Junior Olympics

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Norfolk junior Melissa Parks won the young women's (ages 17 and 18) 2,000-meter steeplechase Tuesday during the first day of competition at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics.

Parks, who was the Class A 800 state champion and finished third in the Class A cross country championships last fall as a sophomore, won in 7:24.87. Ralston senior Matt Holcomb finished third in the young men's 2,000 steeplechase in 6:23.71 and Gabe McAndrews of Omaha was second in the midget boys (11-12) 1,500 race walk in 9:06.81.
