Draper jury fails to reach verdict

The jury weighing sex assault charges involving a former schoolteacher in Millard has been unable to reach a verdict.

Shortly after 3:15 p.m. today, the court announced a hung jury in the case against Stephanie Draper, 36, of Blair, Neb.

Prosecutors had accused Draper of having sex with an eighth grader in 2002, when he was 14 years old.

Draper had taught at the school, but she was not his teacher. In e-mails shown to the court, she had admitted crossing some lines, but denied that she had sexually assaulted the boy.

Draper will be retried in December, said her attorney, Chris Perrone.
