LINCOLN (AP) — A 22-year-old man who grabbed a woman off a Lincoln street at knifepoint, took her to a cornfield and raped her in March 2008 has been sentenced to 40 to 60 years in prison.
Oscar Gonzalez was sentenced Thursday in Lancaster County District Court.
He initially was charged with 12 felony counts stemming from the crime and a separate attempted rape in 2008.
In a deal with prosecutors, Gonzalez pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
In court Thursday, Gonzalez offered an apology through a court interpreter.
His attorney said Gonzalez, who is in the country illegally, will be deported after he serves his sentence.
