Pricey lunch
The winning bid for lunch with investor Warren Buffett topped $1.6 million.
THE WORLD-HERALD
Published Wednesday July 8, 2009A Canadian financial company, Salida Capital, submitted the winning $1,680,300 bid for lunch with Warren Buffett, according to the San Francisco foundation that will receive the money.
Courtenay Wolfe, president and CEO of Salida Capital of Toronto, said in a press release that winning the on-line auction last month was "a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit down with one of the world's greatest investors, a man who can share invaluable perspectives and experience at a very unique time in history."
She said the company would share the experience with its supporters.
“Lunch with Warren Buffett is something we have always had on our ‘dream list'," Wolfe said. "This year marking the 10-year anniversary of our firm, coupled with a strong recovery after difficult events last year, we felt the timing was appropriate.
"We have been consistently supportive and involved in philanthropic causes over the years and the fact that this is going to help such a worthy foundation will make the experience that much more rewarding for us.”
The Rev. Cecil Williams of the Glide Foundation of San Francisco said, “We are extremely thankful to Salida Capital for their generous support and excited that Warren Buffett has shown such commitment and dedication to Glide's work."
Buffett, the chairman and CEO of Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has auctioned off lunches to benefit the Glide Foundation for the past decade.
