LINCOLN — Nebraska receiver Niles Paul was ordered Tuesday to pay a $150 fine for reckless driving, the lone conviction stemming from an alcohol-related arrest that kept him from playing in the Huskers’ spring football game last April.
Paul, appearing in Lancaster County Court on Tuesday afternoon, pled guilty to reckless driving and settled on a plea agreement that called for prosecutors to dismiss charges of minor consumption and driving under suspension, assuming the 19-year-old completes a diversion program.
Paul offered no comment after his hearing Tuesday.
On April 12, the Nebraska State Patrol arrested Paul on suspicion of driving under the influence. But Paul was not charged with a DUI when he was arraigned last month.
NU coach Bo Pelini suspended the junior receiver for the final three spring practices, including the Red-White game April 18. Pelini said in June that Paul had rejoined the team’s offseason training program.
Paul caught 23 passes as a sophomore for Nebraska last season. The former Omaha North standout also fielded punts and kickoffs, returning one 85 yards for a touchdown against San Jose State on Sept. 6.
