WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin says Iowa will receive $460,525 in U.S. Department of Transportation funds to determine the needs of municipal airports around the state,
Harkin said it must be determined how to have the best airports within the limited funding that is available, adding the studies will help achieve that mission for Iowa airports.
According to the Iowa Democrat, $72,371 of the funds will be used to inspect pavement conditions at 22 airports, allowing the formation of recommendations for federal funding for future rehabilitation projects.
Inspections will be conducted at the Algona, Ames, Charles City, Cherokee, Council Bluffs, Emmetsburg, Estherville, Forest City, Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Independence, LeMars, Oelwein, Orange City, Ottumwa, Pocahontas, Sac City, Sheldon, Spencer, Storm Lake, Waverly and Webster City airports.
