A 42-year-old Lexington, Neb., man was killed over the weekend after he ran a stop sign and his car was struck by a pickup truck, officials said Monday.
Humberto Avila was driving his 1990 Ford Tempo west on a county road outside Lexington when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of the road and Nebraska Highway 21, the Dawson County Sheriff's Office said. A northbound Dodge pickup truck driven by Kip Wyatt, 15, of Arapahoe, Neb., struck the driver's-side door.
Avila was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Amalia Huerta, 42, of Lexington, was taken to Lexington's Tri-County Hospital. Wyatt and his two passengers, his father and his brother, were not injured.
All involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, the Sheriff's Office said.
