Track & Field: Plattsmouth girl sweeps throws

YPSILANTI, MICH. — Taylor Heim of Plattsmouth capped her sweep of the Midget Girls throwing events Friday at the USA Track and Field Youth Outdoor championship meet.

Heim won the shot put with a personal best of 35 feet, 1¾ inches. Earlier in the 11- and 12-year-old division, she won the discus and mini-javelin, also with personal-best throws.

Nebraska Association throwers won four other medals — Alex Beideck of Ralston in the Intermediate Boys (15-16) discus (sixth, 123-2); Michelle Wallerstedt of Omaha Burke (seventh, 90-6) and Amber Long of Bellevue West (eighth, 86-1) in the Intermediate Girls javelin; and Kennedy Gochenour of Missouri Valley, Iowa, in the Bantam Girls (10-and-under) shot put (fourth, 20-3). Nadia Williams of Omaha was fourth in the Bantam Girls high jump (3-3¼).

Three runners qualified for Sunday's finals: Ralston senior Matt Holcomb in the Young Men's 1,500-meter run (4:11.76), Millard South sophomore Clara Nichols in the Intermediate Girls 400 (57.55) and Omaha Benson junior Maia Reynolds in the Intermediate Girls 100 (12.57).
