LINCOLN - Nebraska is losing the adjutant general of its National Guard to the Army National Guard.

Gov. Dave Heineman announced today that Maj. Gen. Tim Kadavy has been promoted to deputy director with the national military group. His start date has not been determined but is expected to be within a few months.

Kadavy, 45, is Nebraska's 31st adjutant general. He assumed command of the Nebraska guard on Nov. 3, 2007.

As deputy director, he will be responsible for assisting the Army National Guard director in formulating and coordinating all programs, policies and plans affecting the Army Guard and its more than 350,000 citizen-soldiers. He will be assigned to the National Guard Headquarters in Arlington, Va.

As adjutant general, Kadavy is responsible for leading the more than 4,800 Army and Air National Guard personnel in the state. He is also a member of the governor's cabinet and directs the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.

Prior to his current assignment, Kadavy served as Operations Officer for the Army National Guard Directorate at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Va.

Heineman said he plans to name a successor to Kadavy by Sept. 1. Details on the selection process will be announced later , but it will be similar to the process used in selecting Kadavy , with a panel reviewing applicants and forwarding a list of finalists to the Governor.
